Carter V. Multz, MD, FACP, FACR

Dr. Multz is an alumnus of Gonzaga University and Sritch-Loyola School of Medicine. He practices Medicine in San
Jose, CA. He was the founding President and Medical Director of a 250 physician independent practice managed care
medical group and has served on advisory committees for PruCare and other HMOs, as a director for several other
medical groups and for the California Society of Internal Medicine. He was the rheumatologist on the team that developed
naproxen (Naprosyn,RAleveR) at Syntex and has been an investigator for several other pharmaceutical companies.
Among many other credits he received the Mendel Award at Gonzaga University is recognized as one of the Top Doctors
in Silicon Valley and is a lifetime biographee in Who’s Who in America.
CREDENTIALS
After internship and a year of residency at St. Mary’s Hospital in San Francisco, Dr. Multz was a Fellow in
Rheumatology at the Robert Breck Brigham Hospital and Assistant in Medicine at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in
Boston. Then he completed residency in internal medicine at the Lahey Clinic.
Military service placed him as assistant chief of Rheumatology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Following this he entered the private practice of Rheumatology and Internal Medicine in San Jose, California. Managed
healthcare led to his involvement as chair of the Utilization Review Committee and later the Professional Activities
Committee at O’Connor Hospital in San Jose, CA. He was a director of the Santa Clara County Professional Standards
Review Committee and chaired their hospital review committee. He is a Diplomate of the Executive Course in Managed
Health Care Administration of the Block School of Business, University of Missouri at Kansas City. He also served as a
director of the O’Connor Physicians Association, Silicon Valley Medical Group, San Jose Medical Group, and the
Personal Choice Medical Group of which he was President and Medical Director. He was also President of the Santa
Clara County Society of Internal Medicine and a Trustee of the California Society of Internal Medicine.
